Many of our friends and family have asked this question over the past year.
We had high hopes for her ourselves. Unaware of her turbulent time as mayor of Wasilla, we welcomed her seemingly fresh view. Our hopes constantly devolved as we witness our government become ironically even more of a Good Old Boy network - nepotism and cronyism. She seemed to run her cabinet like a mafia boss, firing anyone who did not totally agree with her. The well known Monegan case is just but one example. The state senate, even Republicans have not been able to work well with her. Her inability to research topics before she speaks has been a great source of embarrassment to us Alaskans. Lisa Murkowski, our Republican Senator who we seek a reliable and informed opinion from. She has been a great asset to the state in her ability to step away from the pack and promote what is best for Alaska. She stands on her own and can work across party lines.
As a mother, I very much worry about her children. She parades them all over, using them as political pawns. When do they go to school?
Bottom line - our family is glad to have her out of office. Hopefully Parnell, our new governor, will be able to separate himself from her and stand on his own two feet. Many Alaskans like myself who were once registered Republican voters are no longer exactly because of what people like her are doing to the balance of the party.
