Support H.R. 235, the "Social Security Fairness Act"
Did you know that in many states teachers, police officers and firefighters are not getting the Social Security they deserve? Under the Windfall Elimination Provision Act, that went into effect in 1985, state/public employees in many states do not put into Social Security, so the government decided to not allow them to recieve the same amount of money as those paying into it. That makes sense, EXCEPT, what about all of those people who have second jobs, or worked full time in other fields, before becoming public employees. They get roughly 60% less of the money they DID put into the social security system, simply because they will draw a state pension. ALSO - this is a big also - if their spouse (who has paid into the social security system their entire career) passes away, the survivor gets 60% less than someone else who doesn't have a state pension.
Ironically I happened to be in the Social Security office not to long ago. In the office a great big poster hung with a picture of a 3 legged stool - planning for the future - your stable financial investments should include "social security, employee pension and personal savings."
Support your local teachers, firefighters and police officers. Write your congressional representatives.

This is not just for the local teachers, fire fighters and police Officers. It is also for personnel that worked 20 + years under social security and now work in some shape and form in public sector. Those of us are hit the hardest!!!!
